Modulify's affiliate program, your referral code and link, and exactly what a referral has to do before you earn.

Share and Earn is Modulify's affiliate program. You share a link, someone signs up through it and pays for a plan, and you earn a share of what they pay for as long as they keep paying.

There is nothing to apply for. Every account gets an affiliate code the moment it is created, and the Share and Earn link sits in the sidebar for everyone.

You are already in the program

Modulify generates your affiliate code when your account is created. It is five characters of lowercase letters and digits, picked at random and checked for uniqueness before it is saved.

Your commission rate is set to 20 percent on the same day, and that is the rate every earnings figure on these pages is worked out from.

Open the program

Click Share and Earn in the sidebar, below the navigation links and above Contact Support. It goes to /dashboard/affiliates.

The page is headed Affiliates with the line "Track your referrals, payouts, and affiliate performance." While you are inside it the sidebar swaps to two entries, Dashboard and Settings, and the main area shows two tabs, Referrals and Payouts.

The Affiliate Code card sits at the top right of the dashboard. Your code is printed large in uppercase, and the full referral link runs underneath it in small grey text.

The link is the Modulify address with ?r= and your code appended.

The button in the corner of the card copies the link. Its tooltip reads Copy affiliate link, and it raises Copied with "Affiliate link copied to clipboard." on success, or Copy failed with "Could not copy affiliate link." if the clipboard refuses.

Copy the link rather than retyping the code. The card shows the code in uppercase for legibility, but codes are stored and matched in lowercase, and the copy button always gives you the exact string.

The three numbers on the dashboard

Est. Payout is a running monthly figure, not a balance. It goes up when a referral starts paying and down when one cancels.

What actually earns a commission

A visit alone earns nothing. A free signup earns nothing. The commission is attributed at the moment a referred workspace starts a paid subscription with your code carried through the checkout.

When that happens, Modulify does three things at once: it adds one to your Active Referrals, it adds that referral's monthly figure to your Est. Payout, and it stamps your account onto the referred workspace as its referrer. Everything afterwards, including your payouts, is read from that stamp.

Two rules limit it:

  • You cannot refer yourself. If the code on the checkout is your own and you are the payer, the attribution is skipped entirely.
  • A subscription is attributed once. If the workspace already has that same subscription on record, the event is treated as a repeat and nothing is counted a second time.

The rate

Your rate is 20 percent, applied to what the referred workspace pays each month. If they are billed monthly, that is 20 percent of the monthly price. If they are billed yearly, the yearly price is spread across twelve months first, so a yearly referral earns slightly less per month than a monthly one at the same plan, because the yearly price is discounted. The commission repeats every month the subscription stays active, which is why the dashboard talks in monthly numbers rather than one-off bounties.

The exact dollar amount for each referral is printed in the Monthly Earnings column of the Referrals tab. Read it there rather than working it out yourself, because that column and your payout total come from the same calculation.

How your code follows a visit

They arrive with ?r= and your code in the address.

The visit is recorded

Modulify matches the code to your account and adds one to your Visits. An unknown or malformed code is rejected and nothing is counted. Inside the app this is recorded once they are signed in, so send people to a page where they can sign up rather than deep into the product.

The code is stored in their browser

It is written to a cookie that lasts 30 days, then the ?r= parameter is stripped out of the address so the URL reads cleanly.

They subscribe

When they open checkout for a paid plan, the stored code is read back and sent to Stripe as the referrer on that session. That is what carries your attribution through payment.

Because the code lives in a cookie, the 30 days is the window you get. Someone who clicks your link and subscribes five weeks later on a fresh browser is not attributed to you.

When a referral stops counting

If a referred workspace cancels its subscription, Modulify reverses the attribution: Active Referrals goes down by one, an inactive count goes up by one, and that referral's monthly amount is subtracted from Est. Payout.

The referral does not vanish from your list. It stays there with a Canceled badge, so you can still see who it was.

Change your code or your payout email

Both live on Settings in the affiliate sidebar, at /dashboard/affiliates/settings. The page is headed Affiliate settings with "Manage your affiliate code and payout details."

Code

The Code row, described as "Your unique affiliate referral code."

  • Letters and numbers only. Anything else raises Code can only contain letters and numbers, no special characters or spaces!
  • At least 3 characters and at most 12. Outside that you get Code needs to be at least 3 characters! or Code can not have more than 12 characters!
  • It has to be free. A spinner runs in the field while Modulify checks, and a taken code raises Code is already taken! in the form and Affiliate code is already taken! from the server.

Once anybody has referred through your code, you cannot change it. Attempting to raises Affiliate code cannot be changed after being used by your referrals! and the save is refused. Pick the code you want before you start sharing it.

Paypal Email

The Paypal Email row, described as "Where your affiliate payouts will be sent." This is the address your payouts go to, and it starts empty.

It must be a valid email address. Anything else shows Email is invalid! under the field and blocks the save, so you cannot save the form at all until this is filled in.

Saving

Save changes sits at the bottom of the card. It is disabled while the page is loading, while a save is in flight, and while the code availability check is running.

A save gives you Affiliate updated with "Affiliate was updated successfully." A rejected save gives you Update failed with the reason from the server.

FAQ

Do I have to apply to join?

No. Your code is created with your account and the Share and Earn link is in the sidebar from day one.

Does a free signup earn me anything?

No. The commission is attributed when a referred workspace starts a paid subscription. See Plans for what the paid plans are.

Can I use my own code on my own subscription?

No. If the code on the checkout is yours and you are the one paying, the attribution is skipped.

How long does my link stay attached to someone?

30 days, held in a cookie in their browser. If it expires or the cookie is cleared before they subscribe, the referral is not attributed to you.

Is the commission one-off or recurring?

It repeats for as long as the referred subscription stays active. Cancel it and the amount comes back off your Est. Payout.

Why is my code shown in capitals?

Only for legibility on the card. Codes are stored and matched in lowercase, and the copy button gives you the exact link.

Can I change my code later?

Only while nobody has referred through it yet. After the first referral it is locked.

From an AI client over MCP

check_affiliate_code tests whether a code is free and update_affiliate claims it. Claiming needs the account:write scope, which is unticked by default, and the code is one way once somebody has signed up through it.
