Create an account
Sign in with Google, GitHub or an emailed link, and land in the workspace Modulify creates for you.
On this page
Signing up takes one click and no payment method. Whichever route you take you end up in the same place, a workspace of your own on the Free plan with the dashboard open at /dashboard.
The sign in screen
Opening Modulify while signed out shows the sign in panel, headed Log in to your account. It offers three routes and nothing else.
- Continue with Google opens the Google account chooser in a popup.
- Continue with GitHub opens GitHub's authorisation popup.
- The Email address field under the OR divider mails you a sign in link when you press Continue.
There is no password anywhere in Modulify. You are never asked to create one, so there is nothing to forget and nothing to reset.
When the popup is blocked
Closing the provider popup yourself is treated as a cancel and reports nothing. While a popup is open, the email field keeps working, so you can switch to it if the popup never finishes.
A desktop browser that blocks the popup outright raises a Sign in failed toast reading Your browser blocked the sign in popup. Please allow popups and try again! Allow popups for the site, then click the button again. On a phone or tablet the same toast reads The sign in popup could not open. Try again, or use your email instead!
Signing in from inside another app
X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and similar apps open links in their own built-in browser, where the Google and GitHub popups cannot finish. There, Continue with Google and Continue with GitHub open a dialog headed Open Modulify in your browser instead, reading Google and GitHub sign in don't work inside this app. Open this page in your browser to continue.
- Open in browser hands the page to Safari on iPhone and iPad and to your default browser on Android. In Instagram on iPhone and iPad it asks Instagram to open the page in your browser, which Instagram does not always do. If your browser does not open, copy the link instead.
- X, TikTok and Snapchat on iPhone and iPad, and WeChat on any device, block every way out to your browser, so there the dialog shows Copy link in place of Open in browser.
- Copy link and the copy button next to the link put it on your clipboard, with a
Link copiedtoast. Paste it into your browser and sign in there. If the app blocks the clipboard you getCould not copy the linkinstead. Press and hold the link to select all of it, then copy it yourself. - Use email instead closes the dialog so you can ask for a sign in link with the email field. The link signs you in wherever you open it.
The link in the dialog points at the page you were headed to, such as a private project you opened while signed out, and carries any Share and Earn invite you opened in the app. The emailed sign in link carries the invite too, so it still counts when you finish signing up in another browser.
Signing in by email
Type your address and choose Continue, or press Enter in the field. Modulify mails you a sign in link, and the panel turns into Check your email, naming the address it went to. Open the link in the email and you are signed in, on this device or another one.
The panel also has a few ways forward.
- Resend email sends it again. It unlocks 10 seconds after each email and counts down until then, such as
Resend in 8s. - Use a different email goes back to the form with the address filled in, ready to fix a typo.
- A Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud or Proton address also gets a button that opens that mail service in a new tab, such as Open Gmail.
- Continue with Google and Continue with GitHub stay available under OR.
Reloading the page keeps Check your email open for up to 1 hour, until you sign in or choose Use a different email.
How long the link works
The link works for 1 hour after the latest email, and only once. Every email sent while it still works carries the same link, so it does not matter which email you open.
Two limits sit on the emails themselves. Asking again within 10 seconds answers with the exact wait, such as Please wait 7 seconds before requesting a new email!, and one address gets at most 5 sign in emails an hour, after which it answers This address has had the most sign in emails allowed this hour. Try again in 23 minutes!
Opening the link
- The link takes you back to where you were when you asked for it, such as a private project or a workspace invitation, even when you open it on another device.
- A link that was already used or has expired shows a
Link expiredtoast readingThis sign in link was already used or has expired. Send yourself a new one!, with your address already in the field. Choose Continue to get a new email. - A link for the account you are already signed in with changes nothing.
- A link for a different account signs you in to that account instead, and any other Modulify tab open in the same browser reloads into it.
- Asking for the link in one tab and opening it in another tab of the same browser signs you in on both.
One account per email address
Your email address is the identity, not the button you pressed. Signing in with a provider whose address already belongs to an account attaches that provider to the account you have, rather than making a second one, as long as the address can be trusted. Google and GitHub are trusted, and so is a verified address on the provider record.
If it cannot be trusted, Modulify refuses rather than guessing, with An account with this email already exists. Please sign in with your original method! Use the route you signed up with, then add the other provider from your account page later.
What the first sign in creates
Registering does four things in one go.
- Your account, carrying your name and avatar from the provider. With no name to read, Modulify builds one from the part of your email before the
@. - A workspace, named after you as
Sam's Workspace, with you as its owner and only member. - The Free plan on that workspace, with 30 AI credits and a site limit of 1. Another 5 land each day for the next 4 days, 24 hours apart and counted from the moment you registered. Together they are the whole free allowance and it does not reset. Credits are workspace property, so the balance you see belongs to the workspace and not to you.
- A billing customer, so that upgrading later is a card entry and nothing else. Nothing is charged and no card is asked for.
That workspace is marked as your default. It is where your free plan lives, which is why it cannot be deleted or transferred away. See Workspaces for what changes when you own more than one.
Where you land
You arrive on the dashboard home page at /dashboard, greeted by name, with the prompt box waiting and no projects yet. Nothing else is gated behind a setup wizard.
Signing out and back in
The user menu at the bottom of the sidebar carries Logout. It signs you out of every Modulify tab open in that browser, and each of them goes back to the sign in panel. Signing back in on any device is the same three buttons, and everything you built is where you left it, because projects belong to the workspace rather than to the browser.
Your name, avatar, email address and connected providers are all editable later from Profile in that menu. Your account covers each of them, including the rules for changing an address while a provider is connected.
