Buy credits
Top up a workspace with a one-off credit pack.
On this page
A top up is a one-off purchase of credits that lands on the workspace immediately. It is separate from your plan, it is not a subscription change, and the credits stay on the balance until they are spent.
Every plan can buy top ups, Free included.
Before you begin
You must be the workspace owner. Anyone else sees the pack picker with the buttons disabled and a warning reading Only workspace owner can purchase credits!
Make sure you are in the workspace you want to credit. The switcher at the top of the sidebar decides which balance the purchase lands on.
Open the purchase view
There are three ways in, and they all open the same window.
- On the Plans page, press Purchase credits on the Credits remaining card.
- In the editor, press Top Up on the credits bar above the chat box. The button appears once the balance reaches zero.
- Click your credit balance anywhere it is shown to open the plan and credits window, then press Top Up.
The window is titled "Your plan and credits". The purchase panel is headed Buy a credit pack.
Pick a pack
A dropdown on the right of the panel offers six sizes, and the price updates next to it as you change the selection.
| Pack | Free, Starter and Enterprise | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | $25.00 | $50.00 |
| 200 | $50.00 | $100.00 |
| 600 | $150.00 | $300.00 |
| 1,000 | $250.00 | $500.00 |
| 3,000 | $750.00 | $1,500.00 |
| 5,000 | $1,250.00 | $2,500.00 |
Pro pays twice per credit because a Pro credit does twice the work. The dollar cost of the same build is the same on either plan. See Credits.
If your balance has gone negative from an overspend, the panel adds a small summary showing Outstanding balance, Credits purchased and Available after purchase, so you can see what you will actually have left.
Pay
The panel states Charged immediately from your card. with a Manage button beside it that opens the card management portal.
Press Purchase Credits.
- If a card is already on file, the charge is taken straight away without leaving the window. The panel switches back to the balance view with the new total on it.
- If there is no card, or the card needs authentication, Modulify sends you to Stripe checkout instead. Pay there and you come back to the page you started from.
On return the toast reads Credits added, "Your credit pack is on the balance and ready to spend." If you abandon checkout you get Purchase canceled, "No payment was taken and your balance is unchanged."
After the purchase
The credits show as Top up credits in the balance breakdown, separate from your monthly allowance.
They behave differently from the allowance in two ways. The monthly reset never clears them, so they carry forward indefinitely. And spending drains them first, before it touches the subscription allowance.
The workspace owner also gets an email confirming the purchase.
If it does not go through
The panel prints the reason in red rather than a generic failure.
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| No billing profile was found for this account! | The account has no Stripe customer yet |
| The price changed since this window opened. Close it and try again! | The quote in the window no longer matches the plan's rate |
| We could not read your plan, so the purchase was not made! | The workspace plan did not resolve, so nothing was charged |
| Your payment went through but the credits could not be applied. | The charge succeeded and the credits did not land. Modulify is alerted automatically |
